The aluminum extrusion process produces products as shown in the table above.
Let’s explain each process one by one:
[1 Aluminum billet arrival]
As mentioned in the previous post, aluminum is made into aluminum ingots through the process of extracting it from bauxite.
This ingot is then melted down again to create an aluminum billet. The reason aluminum billets are made is because pure aluminum has weak strength.
This is to create a strong aluminum alloy by mixing several types of metals (aka alloy).
In our daily lives, we often use strong aluminum billets of 6061, 6063, and 6N01.
The process of making these billets uses a huge amount of electricity, so most of our country relies on imports.
There are companies in Korea that directly manufacture billets, but such companies produce alloys for special purposes.
In the case of commonly used billets, they are rarely manufactured and rely on imports due to lack of profitability.
[2 Loading billets into the heating furnace (log share) loading device]
Aluminum billets made of alloy have enormous weight.
Because accidents can occur during transportation or movement, it is usually transported or moved using a forklift.
Aluminum is first loaded using a loading device in front of the aluminum heating furnace, and then the billets are mechanically moved to the heating furnace one by one.
[3 Billet heating]
Because alloyed billets are very strong, they are difficult to extrude directly. So, we put the billet in the billet heating furnace (log share) and heat it for a certain period of time.
Typically, it is heated at 480 ± 20 ℃ for about 5 to 20 minutes. Then, the strong billet becomes slightly soft. Usually, you can think of it as a rice cake from a mill.
Just as mill rice cake becomes soft at high temperatures but becomes very hard when hardened, it is used to make products of any shape from billets.
It is easier to shape the shape by heating it in a furnace.
[4 Mold heating]
There are various molds such as extrusion mold, injection mold, press mold, etc., but aluminum extrusion mold is made by placing an aluminum billet in a mold made in a specific shape.
Aluminum can be extruded well by creating the desired shape, and the billet can be used in a mold heating furnace to create a good product shape.
The mold is also heated to a certain temperature. It is usually heated at 480 ± 20 ℃ for more than 2 hours.
[5 Extrusion through mold]
This is a process that creates the product shape in earnest using heated billets and molds.
The aluminum billet is implemented into the shape of an extruded shape through the movement of the material input into the mold by EXTRUSION RAM.
[6 air cooling]
Extruded aluminum products are cooled in air. Usually, when looking at aluminum material, it is recorded as 6063-T5, but 6063 refers to aluminum material.
T5 means cooling in the air. 6061-T6 means 6061 aluminum material, T6 means water cooling.
Cooling with water significantly increases the strength of aluminum.
[7 8 Moving to braces and straightening (stretching)]
Extruded aluminum products are cooled in the air and then moved to the straightener.
Most extruded products are not straight and are curved.
A straightener is a device that straightens an extruded aluminum product by pulling both ends.
Also called stretching
[9 cuts]
Both ends of the aluminum product completed by the straightener are distorted by the straightener.
Cut off this dented area, leaving only the good part. We also cut it to the length requested by the orderer.
[10 11 Loading and furnace heat treatment]
The cut products are loaded into a device called a heating furnace.
After loading the product, put it back into the heating furnace.
Aluminum extruded profiles produced through a high-temperature,
high-pressure extrusion process have a microstructure that determines the strength of the profile along with changes in shape.
The strength is improved by eliminating internal stress by artificially age-hardening aluminum extruded profiles
that are formed with an unstable crystal structure and have undergone plastic deformation at a recrystallization temperature.
[12 Packaging]
The product that comes out of the heating furnace is finished as a bare aluminum product (a product without any paint).
Depending on the purchaser's preference, fluorine coating, anodizing, powder coating, and heat transfer are performed on bare aluminum skin.
Almost all aluminum products we use are made through this complex process.
If you go through various processes such as hole processing, cutting processing, and even aluminum painting, it becomes a more complete product.
For aluminum product manufacturing, we provide ONE-STOP service from product design, mold production, extrusion, processing, painting, packaging, and construction.
